Penfolds Grange Hermitage 1951 is the world’s most expensive specimen wine. Also one of the rarest wines in the world. Valuations for the rare and famous Penfolds Grange Hermitage "special bins" must be treated with great care. It is essential to factor in current market activity and the condition of the bottle to be valued.
The auction sales information below is all correct and verifiable, but the challenge of establishing values for these remarkable wines gets down to bottle by bottle assessment. As with coins and stamps, the condition (label damage, wine level/ullage, provenance/cellaring history) can change a value by over 50%.
