Houghtons White Burgundy (Classic White) leads the investment charge
Wine Investment is a tricky and sometimes risky business, ask our good friends who went down the garden path with promoters like Wine Orb or Heritage.
Wine investment is a lot of fun if you are happy to invest in the potential of wines that will grow in stature and value in the cellar. I like the old fashioned gentlemans approach to buying wine. Hang onto the good stuff and sell half, hoping the sales will pay over time for the purchases. Drinking for FREE!
Houghtons White Burgundy (now Classic White) along with Tahbilk Marsanne and Wolf Blass Gold Label Riesling is the best value cellaring whites when it comes to value and reliability.
Started in 1937 and still going strong the Houghtons White Burgundy ages
magnificently!
Buy many cases and DONT touch them for at least 5 years!!! BE STRONG
Lash out buy heaps and use the idea of a long term supply as the justification
Keep an eye out for the 2006 vintage from WA. It was the longest, slowest ripening vintage on record with most harvesting done up to 6 weeks late!
As a little post script we enjoyed a magnum, of 1997 Houghtons White Burgundy at a very flash wine and food event a few months back. Against Penfolds Grange and many rare and special big ticket wines it shone. In the league of international champions it was a comfortable contender!
