Sexiest, trendiest wines found “beyond the black stump”
The Murray Darling Collection / MDC Story
A tongue twisting way to trick your wine snob “know all” mates
Imagine the most isolated corner of the Murray Darling bad lands, somewhere around the point where NSW VIC & SA meet, where crows fly backwards and Texas looks small. That’s where you will find the Chalmers family and their broad acre grape farms and vine nursery. This is the sort of vineyard that you couldn’t drive around in one day.
The Chalmer’s run a big business, employ everyone in the local town and think big. They have teamed up with gun wine maker Sandro Mosele of Kooyong fame to make the most intriguing and ambitious collection of wines in Australia. I would be happy enough to be able to pronounce the names of the exotic latin grape varieties that are unique to the Murray Darling Collection
Vermentino
Lagrein
Sagrantino
Malvasia Istriana
Negro Amaro
The wines are all very interesting, different without being weird and as you would expect beautifully crafted. Balance and fresh ripe flavours abound.
Do yourself a favour,
click here and go to the MDC website and have a look for yourself. Prices are reasonable, potential to trick snobby wine mates is ENDLESS. Where do you get it? Contacts on the website for outlets.
Kim Chalmers and Sandro Mosele were in Perth presenting the MDC wines at Gala Restaurant this month. What a night out! Kim’s smile and enthusiasm warmed the whole restaurant and the food, as always, world class. Watch out for Murray Darling Collection MDC and look out for the varieties listed above which the experts tell us are perfectly suited to the Australian climate.
