Mr Robert Parker’s Pronouncements
Mr Robert Parker is the world’s most influential wine critic. No one comes close when followers and international coverage are taken into account.

The www.erobertparker.com system current offers over 60,000 wine reviews, 36,000 from France alone. 5,000 from Australia!

The latest pronouncements on Australian new releases were contained in the October 2006 and December 2006 editions of Mr Parker’s “Wine Advocate”

October covered 712 wines form Barossa, McLaren Vale and Clare Valley. December reviewed 212 wines from the rest of Australia. (it appears that regional references for NSW, Vic and WA did not warrant listing)

Objectivity is very important when considering the results of a system as professional and extensive as the Parker Wine Advocate.

Why were over 700 South Australian wines reviewed against on 200 from the other Australian wine regions combined?

Even more distressing for lovers of all things from Western Australia, the Wine Advocate has never graded a WA wine in the top 96 to 100pt category. WA’s best ever scores were the 2003 Vasse Felix Heytesbury Cabernet Blend and the 1999 Three Hills Shiraz with a creditable 95pts.

I have huge respect for the Parker Wine review system and the man himself. What does Mr Parker think about the quality of wines from outside SA?

Remember, Mr Parker has the worlds most experienced (best?) and most respected palate. We need to be very careful not to shoot the messenger. Don’t forget it is fair to say that Robert Parker, single handed, has made the fortunes of many Aussie boutique and second tier producers. It could also be argued Mr Parker can take much credit for the international success of the Australian Wine industry over the past 10 years.

Love him or hate him, you can’t ignore the man.

Go to www.erobertparker.com for the full story on all 2006 Aussie wines reviewed. And of course the other 5,000 Australian wines on the system.

We recommend subscriptions to the Robert Parker website as a perfect wine lovers gift.
