Old-world pedigree for peanuts?
Buy the 2008 Oakridge Chardonnay and enjoy a bargain.
So much class and reserved to sell at half wholesale!
The Chardonnay story keeps moving ever higher, from pinnacle to lofty
height. Oz Chards led by the wonder wines of Leeuwin and Giaconda are some
way off rivaling Le Montrachet, but many Oz premium Chards give mid range
white Burgundies a run for the money.
Oz Chardonnay has evolved from the naive Dolly Parton "all up front" style
to sublime subtlety and beguiling charm.
It's the flinty, minerality, a silky caress cut with clean acid and elegant
fruit that drives me crazy and these wines just keeps on coming and
unfolding.
The following notes came from the Sterling September Pre-auction tasting.
There is about 5 doz of the 2008 Oakridge Chard in six packs in the October
catalogue. They sold for a hammer-fall of around $15 a bottle in the
September auction. Buy up. Drinking beautifully right now as a very young
beauty. A few years of bottle age might show another facet yet to be
revealed.
Oakridge Chardonnay 2008 Yarra Valley This is a BIG
surprise. VERY Smart indeed. When in doubt read the instructions or the back
label. This wine has been made with all the big buck features, high low
yielding vineyards handpicked barrel ferment with wild yeast. The product is
very Burgundy. No malo or tropical washout here. The wood sits in place and
lovely soft minerally Chardonnay essence wafts and caresses your tongue.
This is a wine that would be murdered by pouring it icy cold. It would taste
thin and cheap. I love this wine; it amazing and well worth the RRP of $30
plus a bottle.
