A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN -
JOHN PURBRICK - 2010/02/01
I have been very focused on
family in this year of Tahbilk?s
150th Anniversary.
My own family of course has been
to the forefront of my thoughts
? it is after all our own 85th
Anniversary of being the proud
custodians of the quite unique
living treasure that is Tahbilk.
I think back to my father Eric
and his profound early impact,
and to his father who set the
Purbrick & Tahbilk train in
motion with the purchase of the
Estate in 1925. Certainly
thoughts are to my own son
Alister keeping a steady hand on
the reins as we move through
these difficult times for the
Industry.
And then of course to Hayley,
Matt, Lauren, Maddie & Monica ?
the next generation ? already
having an impact and challenging
us all with the "Why can?t we do
it now!" impetuosity of youth.
But importantly there is another
family equally significant to
Tahbilk?s past and to our
future. And that is our staff
family and I don?t use that term
in a glib, corporate throw-away
manner. We know all of our
people well. Most are locals
born in the region - many have
grown up with Tahbilk, starting
out as wide-eyed teenagers and
now attending retirement
planning seminars! We have
laughed and cried, shared the
highs and lows that life throws
up at you, danced a little,
broken bread together, had the
odd wine and beer or two and we
would not be here today without
them.
Like all families we have our
moments of disagreement but
these are talked through openly
and with no fear or favour.
Pervading all of this is a
genuine care that flows both
ways and that is what makes
being part of the Tahbilk family
a pretty special ?thing?.
So with your indulgence, I will
take this opportunity in our
150th year to publicly &
sincerely thank our extended
"family" who have given their
all in the years gone by, who
give their all now and those who
will continue to give their all
in the years to come.
I feel confident with their help
? and let me not forget for a
moment, your valued support ? we
can look towards a positive &
long future ahead.
Cheers,
John Purbrick - Chairman
