Free Membership
You need to be a member to bid at our auctions. The Free membership entitles you to an online account with Sterling Wine Auctions and the ability to bid online at all Sterling wine auctions and download a free electronic copy of each catalogue each month.

As a member, each time you visit Sterling Wine Auctions you first need to login using your Member ID and Password to access your account and to bid. You can find out more by clicking New Member at the top of the home page now.

Our catalogue
The use of the latest technology means that our catalogue is live on line and interactive for buyers all over the world. Put simply, it can do many things that a print catalogue cannot. It is fully searchable and is linked to an electronic database of lot condition reports and price history.

You might like to search for rare older vintages, fine Australian wines from a particular region or producer, scarce limited release wines, classic Bordeaux, Burgundy, vintage Port or Champagne. You might like to search, by bottle type or by variety. In fact you can search for any one or any combination of these criteria. You can even set the number of results you would like displayed per page (up to 200!).

Sterling Wine Auctions recognises that even with the latest technology some members will still prefer to browse the print edition of our catalogue. Everyone it seems has access to the internet. If you want a printed paper copy of the sterling wine auction catalogue just click on the "Auctions" button on the top tool bar and scroll to "download catalogue" (This link is also available on the bottom tool bar on each page of the current auction catalogue. If you do prefer to browse our print catalogue you can then use the catalogue search facilities on the Sterling web site to find the lots you've marked.

Wine Investment Service
Wine investment has its roots in the tradition of the affluent gentleman's ambition to maintain a cellar at no cost.  Buying wine before release and  before they became popular gave the gentleman with fine wine taste and judgement the opportunity to profit from selling a part of his astute purchases and thereby coving the remaining costs with profits.  The area of wine investment has become the domain of much confusion and misrepresentation.<  As with collecting Fine Art, wine collecting can attract some investment returns.  As with Art,  collecting Wine with investment return as the sole consideration will provide little satisfaction.

Many Sterling clients have benefited from investment strategy input, often choosing a purchase program that covers many proven areas then indulging their passion for particular wine types or brands.

Bidding Live On Line
Once you've made your selections from our catalogue you're ready to bid. Now you can bid Live online. Sterling Wine Auctions Live On Line allows you to bid and compete in real time. You can even follow your bids (and update them if necessary) until the auction is over. There are no delays and you know immediately if you have the winning bid.

Sterling Wine Auctions Live On Line does all your bidding for you. Live On Line automatically bids only AUD$1 more than the next highest bid. For example if your Live On Line is $AUD100 and the next highest Live On Line is AUD$50 you will pay only AUD$51. Live On Line allows you to set the maximum bid you are willing to make, but not necessarily pay, for a lot. Having placed your maximum bid there is no risk of losing a lot to someone else at a price you would have been willing to pay. The system automatically increases your bid up to the maximum you have set in response to bids placed by others. Live On Line continues to monitor the bidding on your behalf until you are the successful bidder at the close of the sale, or until you are outbid.

With Live On Line you continue to be involved in the auction without having to constantly monitor the bidding. Sterling Wine Auctions Live On Line auction technology ensures that all parties involved are treated equitably and that your participation is time effective and user-friendly.

Buyer's Pemium
If you are the successful bidder the Buyer's Premium is the amount paid to Sterling Wine Auctions on the purchase of a lot. It is a set percentage of 15% (incl. GST) of the hammer price of the lot.

Viewing
For any of our auctions the entire sale is available for viewing by appointment at Sterling Wine Auctions two days prior to auction. Please phone with a list of the lots you wish to view and they will be ready for you the next day.  Our experienced cellar staff are happy to discuss the quality, background and condition of any lot with you at any time,  again only a phone call away.  For rare and valuable lots a digital photo cane be arranged and sent to your email address.
