Very deep garnet-purple in color the 2008 Grange reveals a truly decadent nose with tons of spices, fruit cake and black & blue fruit compote notes along with nuances of chocolate and potpourri. The full and rich, multi-layered palate has a little oak still showing, it is going through a little bit of a structural stand-out stage, but it doesn't detract on the long and complex finish. It still needs a good few years to develop, though this very opulent, expressive Grange shows the very best of this vintage and the vineyards it hails from.

Penfolds — The Rewards of Patience, Ninth Edition

Drink: Drink now 2065

Deep crimson. Attractive perfectly ripe dark cherry, dark plum, melted chocolate, panforte aromas with hints of liquorice and spice. Supple and slinky textured wine with concentrated dark chocolate, panforte, blackberry pastille, mulberry fruits, hints of soy and smoky oak, lovely firm sinuous graphite tannins; building up to a chewy long finish. Still youthful in shape but a brilliant Grange showing all the hallmarks of a classic Penfolds vintage. "Gorgeous and well-balanced, this is set for a long life, and it is likely to be regarded as a superstar in decades to come." (MJ) 14.5% alc "Black fruit. Blackcurrant and blueberry. Gentle. Saturated with fruit! Tastes so young, it's insolent. I love it. I love its sass and pouty prettiness and attitude and heart on its sleeve. I love the way this wine shines with the sheer recklessness of being alive." (TC) 98% Shiraz, 2% Cabernet Sauvignon Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, and Magill Estate (Adelaide) Difficult growing conditions were overcome by meticulous vineyard management and fruit selection from earlier ripening, older vines. Received 100 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.
