Drink 2006–2018
A classic effort, the 2002 Shiraz St. Henri (91% Shiraz and 9% Cabernet Sauvignon) was aged 14 months in old 1,460 liter vats. First introduced in 1953, the St. Henri offering is considered to be a quintessential old Southern Australian-styled red. The 2002 was sourced from the Barossa, McLaren Vale, Clare Valley, and the Fleurieu Peninsula. This stunningly rich, distinctive Shiraz offers up scents of Provencal herbs, bay leaves, blackberries, black currants, new saddle leather, and loads of meaty characteristics. Rich, texturally opulent, and soft, this heady offering should drink well for 10-12 years. It is also a very good bargain in the scheme of Penfolds’ pricing.

Medium-deep crimson. Intense dark chocolate, blackberry aromas with panforte, salted liquorice notes. Generous, supple and sweet fruited with choco-berry/panforte flavours, roasted almond loose-knit chocolaty/grippy tannins and attractive mineral length. "Powerfully structured, really quite and racy with freshness and generosity... needs time to soften and expand." (GH) A classic St Henri vintage. 14.5% alc "The 2002 St Henri Shiraz is so aromatically blessed! It's perfumed and floral, bright, and primal, with crushed rocks and brine, asphalt and graphite, black fruit, resin, tobacco, and salted liquorice. is such a pluses-and-minuses wine. I'm in love with the aromatics and the middle palate, but ripeness and alcohol at the finish challenging." (EL) 90% Shiraz, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon Barossa Valley (69%), McLaren Vale, Clare Valley, Fleurieu Peninsula
