Deep garnet-purple, Saltrams 2006 No. 1 Shiraz has intense macerated blackberry and mint aromas with some underbrush, damp loam and allspice notes plus a whiff of anise. Still tight and youthful in the mouth, the full-bodied beauty has generous fruit supported by crisp acidity and medium-firm very fine grained tannins. The finish is long with some earthy nuances. Approachable now, it should open and soften in a year or two and drink best from 2013 to 2020+.
