From a vineyard planted by Charles Angas in the 1890s, Langmeil's 2018 Pure Eden Shiraz is a knockout. Lifted, slightly herbal notes (mint, sage, bay leaf) lead the way, quickly joined by notes of blueberries and blackberries. There's a bit of vanilla too, as about one-third of the wine went into new French oak (the balance went into used barrels). Full-bodied, concentrated and intense on the palate, framed by softly dusty tannins and with a long, long finish, it's a terrific example of Eden Valley Shiraz that should age well for up to two decades.
