1996 Penfolds Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon
Penfolds Rewards of Patience ★★★★★
Penfolds — The Rewards of Patience, Ninth Edition
Drink: Drink now 2032
Medium-deep crimson. Dark chocolate, blackberry, wax polish, cedar, black olive, mint, hint liquorice aromas. Generously proportioned wine with ample choco-berry fruits, fine grainy/touch ferruginous textures, very good mid-palate volume and underlying savoury notes. Leafy firm at the finish with fresh acidity and mint/sage flowing through. "A firm expression of Bin 407, especially after the plushness and 'generosity' of the 1994 vintage. But there's vibrant core of ripe mellowing Cabernet fruit, and ironstone/blood-like savouriness and well-integrated new oak. Can clearly still develop." (ER) A classic Bin 407 vintage. 13.5% alc Bordertown (37%), Coonawarra, Padthaway, McLaren Vale, Eden Valley, Barossa Valley 12 months' maturation in 17% new French oak, 12% new American oak and 71% in seasoned American and French oak.
