Robert Parker Score: 91 points

Reviewer: Robert M. Parker, Jr. — 16131 Oct 2005

Drink 2005–2020

The 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Bin 707 exhibits a broodingly dense ruby/purple color as well as a sweet nose of black currants, tapenade, cola, and spicy oak (this cuvee spends 14 months in 100% new American barrels). Pure and dense yet fresh and elegant, it appears to be one of the finest Bin 707s produced in nearly a decade. It is much more natural tasting than previous vintages, which seemed too extracted and acidified. The 2002 should drink well young, yet age for 15+ years.

Deep crimson. Classic dark chocolate, blackcurrant, touch black pepper, roasted hazelnut aromas with liquorice notes. Richly concentrated and chocolaty with blackcurrant, dark chocolate, roasted hazelnut/ cracked almond flavours, fine chewy/al dente tannins. "Layers of exotic spice and a whiff of smoked meat. Tightly coiled and ready to spring." (EL) A well- preserved Bin 707 vintage with time ahead to develop further. 14.5% alc "Ripe black fruits, sage, dried herbs with brambly notes and touches of fragrant vanilla. A fruit-forward style with sour cherries, tart strawberries, and ripe blackcurrants, a core of salty, slate, graphite tannins and lots of wood and liquorice. Tightly framed, even a touch of austerity, but there's so much power waiting to be let loose. This should be a beauty!" (GH) Barossa Valley (51%), McLaren Vale, and Padthaway
