PENFOLDS Grange Shiraz 1995 | South Australia | 1 MAGNUM | AU$1500-1700 | AUD $ 721 |
Robert Parker Score: 92 points
Reviewer: Robert M. Parker, Jr. — E20021 Feb 2002
Drink 2004–2018
An impressive Grange that may ultimately prove to be underrated, like many wines from this vintage, the 1995, a blend of 94% Shiraz and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, exhibits a saturated plum/purple color and a sweet blackberry liqueur nose intermixed with cassis, licorice, and new oak. The wine is textured, jammy, full-bodied, with impressive levels of extract, glycerin, and black fruit flavors. It is long, ripe, with unobtrusive acidity and tannin. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2018.

Drink: Drink now 2038
Medium-deep crimson. Black cherry, leafy, forest floor aromas with dark chocolate roasted walnut, panforte notes and hints of black pepper. Generous and complex wine with black cherry, mulberry, cassis fruits, plentiful leafy/al dente firm tannins, and well-balanced mocha, marzipan, touch vanilla notes. Finishes bittersweet and chocolaty. Sturdy and compact gravelly firm structure. "A geological rather than botanical Grange." (NR) 13.8% alc 94% Shiraz, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon Kalimna Vineyard (Barossa Valley), Barossa Valley, and Magill Estate (Adelaide)
