Drink 2002–2002
Production: 4,160 cases Blend: 95% Shiraz/5% Cabernet Sauvignon
The 1965 Grange Hermitage's dull color reveals considerable amber and orange at the edge. It exhibits a pronounced nose of roasted coffee, sweet herbs, mocha, and cedar. There is some fruit in the attack, but it fades quickly to display a wine with more hot alcohol and structure than sweetness and extraction. Although it remains full-bodied and is drinking reasonably well, this wine is in decline.
Note: The production figures shown are for twelve bottle cases unless otherwise noted.

Penfolds — The Rewards of Patience, Ninth Edition
Drink: Rare. Drink now
Medium-deep crimson. Advanced earthy wax polish, apricot, grilled nut, praline, leather/vellum aromas. Richly flavoured and complex wine with ample apricot, stone fruit, butterscotch, dark chocolate, caramel flavours, loose-knit chocolaty textures, very good mid- palate volume and fresh saline notes. Finishes lacy firm and minerally. "Still layered and silky but beginning to peacefully fade away." (NB). Still holding up, but past its best now. 13.2% alc 95% Shiraz, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon Kalimna Vineyard (Barossa Valley), Barossa Valley, Magill Estate and Morphett Vale (Adelaide), McLaren Vale Jimmy Watson Trophy winner. Released as Bin 95 (and also as Bins 69, 70, and 71).
