Also entering a slow descent, the 1984 Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot offers up earth-tinged notes of ripe cherries and pipe tobacco. It's medium to full-bodied, with a velvety feel that becomes coarser with air. It's still a lovely piece of history that provides more than intellectual enjoyment, but it should be drunk up.
