Drink 2025–2040
The 2020 Les Amis Grenache is similar to the Hillside Grenache from the same vintage in that it is starkly different in character from its vintage peers. It has the attractive red fruit that we see in the 2018 vintage (which I loved, both in isolation and in the context of this vertical), couched in an ashy, savory character that shapes the feel of the tannins through the finish. There are notes of potpourri, salted/dusted licorice, graphite and even cracked pistachio. I'll be interested to see this wine in the future; it has all the hallmarks of aging well, and the distinct characters I perceive today will either be absorbed or emphasized by time. 15% alcohol, sealed under natural cork.
