Drink 2024–2054

The 2014 Matthew Cabernet Sauvignon leads with pencilly oak and layers of biscuit, oatmeal, dark berries, graphite, tobacco and dried herbs. The wine feels quite French in its styling, with a distinctly herbal—Margaret River gum trees, perhaps—aspect to it, along with raspberry pip, dried bay leaf, Biscoff biscuit, pink peppercorns and red apple. The tannins and oak sit beneath the fruit and drive the flavors long on the palate. It took a few sips of this wine to get into its swing; it has a muscularity and an oakiness about it that doesn't go away, but ultimately the fruit triumphs in the end. It is aromatically beguiling. I absolutely love the bouquet. It's a superb wine; still, I would wait longer while this wine evolves. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.
