Penfolds — The Rewards of Patience, Ninth Edition

Drink: Drink now 2040

Deep crimson. Roasted coffee, espresso, blackberry praline aromas with herb notes. Inky deep and vigorous with lovely dark chocolate, espresso, mocha, chinotto flavours, fine grippy Claret-like tannins, superb volume and underlying roasted chestnut, fresh tobacco notes. Finishes chocolaty firm with raspberry pastille/ chinotto/cola. Lovely lacy but firm structure. "A super-complex, quieter, more finely woven and calmly delivered Bin 389. And only just starting its journey." (NR) 13.9% alc "The fruit sings and sings. It tastes of blood and blackcurrant, plum and iron, rust, road and rain. The tannins punctuate the flow of fruit with effortless restraint. As fluid as a ripple on a dark lake." (TC) 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 49% Shiraz Padthaway (56%), Barossa Valley, Coonawarra, McLaren Vale
