Robert Parker Score: 94+ points

Reviewer: Erin Larkin — September 2024 Week 131 Jul 2025

Drink 2025–2046

The 2019 The Octavius was first made in 1990 and has always been the Old Vine Shiraz for Yalumba. It is a blend of vineyards in both Barossa and Eden Valleys. The oldest vineyard to feature in this wine was planted in 1854, plus 1901, 1920 and the 1940s and 1950s. This is powerful and supple, savory and inky, layered with crushed rocks, black licorice tannins, dark chocolate and game. The oak is wholly French oak in this vintage, but the history of the wine is embedded in the use of Yalumba-coopered American oak octaves (100 liter barrels). Hence, the name. This is looking excellent today, dark yet fresh, complex, layered, silty and long. 14.5% alcohol, sealed under natural cork.
